I recently decided to go a step further and become a Chartered Engineer for Higher-Risk Buildings (HRB), as I wanted to lead by example and show that our industry is prepared to change in response to the Building Safety Act.
I chose to become professionally registered to formally recognise my engineering practice and the standards I uphold. It reflects my commitment to the profession and to continual professional development. As an educator, it is also important to lead by example and demonstrate the value of professional recognition to future engineers.

I see Chartered Engineer status as having a travel passport in place of other forms of IDs, because it has been standardised via UK-SPEC to match up with global engineering work ethics and maintains continued professional development.
