The Engineering Council holds and maintains the national Register of professionally registered engineers and technicians who have met recognised standards of competence, commitment and ethical practice.

More than a list of names, the Register provides independent assurance that professionally registered engineers and technicians have been assessed against Engineering Council Standards through a Licensed professional engineering institution (PEI). It enables employers, clients, regulators, Government and the public to place confidence in the professionals they engage and the recognised standards they have met.

The Register is central to the Engineering Council's role as regulator, providing an authoritative record of professionals who have met recognised standards and enabling others to rely on professional registration with confidence.

As engineering continues to evolve, the Register provides a trusted benchmark that supports confidence in professional competence, strengthens public trust and helps embed recognised professional standards across industry, regulation and public life.

Professional registration provides independent assurance that an engineering professional has met recognised standards of competence, knowledge, understanding and commitment through peer assessment.

Engineers and technicians who achieve professional registration have had their competence and commitment independently assessed against Engineering Council Standards and are awarded one of our protected professional titles.

These legally protected titles, and the post nominals that may be used after an individual's name, show that an engineer or technician has met the recognised standard for professional registration.

To remain on the Register, registrants commit to maintaining and developing their competence through continuing professional development (CPD), while upholding high standards of professional and ethical practice.
