Standards Review 2026
Please note: the Standards remain under development. No proposed revisions have yet been formally approved, circulated or implemented. The Engineering Council will publish further information, including details of the public consultation, as the review progresses.
The Standards Review 2026 will refresh our core standards: UK-SPEC, AHEP, AAQA, and the Regulations for Registration, to ensure they continue to reflect current engineering practice while remaining relevant, effective, and fit for purpose for the future.
This is in support of our mission to maintain internationally recognised standards of competence and commitment for the engineering profession.
October 2026 update
In August, the Engineering Council moved into the drafting phase of the Standards Review.
Three working groups are now developing the next versions of UK-SPEC, Learning Outcomes and the Regulations for Registration (RfR), informed by the recommendations approved by the Registration Standards Committee (RSC) following the 2025 and 2026 thematic workshops.
The working groups are taking a coordinated approach to ensure the Standards remain robust, relevant and consistent, while improving their clarity, accessibility and usability.
Drafting will continue through an iterative process of review and refinement, with public consultation planned for early 2027.
