Chartered Engineer celebrated as IET Young Woman Engineer of the Year 2024

Published: 11/12/2024

IET Young Woman Engineer of the Year 2024 WinnerThe Engineering Council congratulates Marisa Kurimbokus CEng MIMechE FWES for winning this year’s IET Young Woman Engineer of the Year Award.

The award celebrates the contribution of young women engineers and challenges outdated perceptions of engineering.

Marisa has over a decade of experience in product design and systems engineering with roles at automotive and power companies such as Jaguar Land Rover, Triumph Motorcycles and Lyra Electronics. She has led engineering teams and managed activities including the delivery of projects, research and development, design, testing and prototyping.

Passionate about Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM), Marisa is committed to supporting engineers at all levels, motivated by her own experiences as a student without role models. In 2022, she was featured in the Top 50 Women in Engineering for her contributions to net zero and green technology.

We also extend our congratulations to all the finalists, including Chartered Engineer Salma Alarefi CEng MIET FWES.

The Engineering Council hopes that role models such as Marisa and Salma will inspire girls and young women not only to join the profession but to believe they can achieve professional registration and become role models for others.

This is particularly important in light of recent findings from EngineeringUK, which reveal a decline in the proportion of women in engineering and technology roles, from 16.5% to 15.7% over the past year.

The full list of award winners and finalists is available on the IET website.
