The revised fourth edition of UK-SPEC was published on 31 August 2020 and implemented by 31 December 2021.

The UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence and Commitment (UK-SPEC) sets out the competence and commitment required for registration as an Engineering Technician (EngTech), Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng). It also includes examples of activities that demonstrate the required competence and commitment.

The overall approach in redrafting UK-SPEC was to aim for greater clarity, making the requirements, ie the Standard itself, more obvious, while providing better examples of how applicants might provide evidence of having met the Standard.
