Toby Robinson is a structural engineer and multidisciplinary design leader with 28 years’ experience delivering complex building and infrastructure projects across a wide range of sectors. He has worked closely with architects, clients, contractors and specialist teams to develop practical, buildable solutions, with particular expertise in the adaptation and extension of existing buildings.

In his current role as a Structural Project Director at Mott MacDonald, Toby leads large multidisciplinary design teams from concept through to construction. His approach combines technical rigour with strong stakeholder engagement, helping teams make clear decisions and deliver designs that respond to client objectives, project constraints and long-term value.

Toby has a strong interest in reducing embodied carbon, modern methods of construction and platform-based design for manufacture and assembly. His project experience includes major transport, aviation, defence, cultural and commercial schemes, including work at Airports, HS2, the Northern Line Extension and Centre Court at Wimbledon.

A Fellow of both the Institution of Structural Engineers and the Institution of Civil Engineers, Toby has also contributed to the wider profession through senior institutional roles, including serving as Vice President of the Institution of Structural Engineers in 2021–2022 and previously as a Regional Group Chair and Council Member.
