Dr Maurizio Pilu PhD MBA FIET is an executive leader at the intersection of AI, emerging technology, commercial opportunities and governance in high-stakes organisations and markets.

He was recently the founding Managing Director of Safetytech Accelerator, a global award-winning tech advisory business, a subsidiary of Lloyd’s Register, advancing the adoption of AI and emerging technologies in industrial sectors. Previously, he was co-founder and exec director of the national deep-tech centre, Digital Catapult, and worked at Innovate UK, Hewlett Packard Labs, and in deep-tech VC.  

He has served on numerous boards and advisory bodies across nonprofits, government-backed institutions, and deep-tech businesses, supporting policy, business strategy, digital transformation, risk, and responsible AI.

Maurizio is an accomplished engineer with dozens of patents and scientific publications, driving the use of advanced tech in dozens of businesses and government, and securing more than £100m for ventures and programmes he led.

Maurizio combines fiduciary rigour with deep technical expertise, supporting boards in aligning innovation, public protection and long-term institutional resilience.
