Celebrating trusted professionals during Chartered Week 2026

Published: 23/02/2026

The Engineering Council is proud to support Chartered Week 2026, which takes place from 23 to 27 February. This national initiative recognises the professionals and organisations setting the benchmark for competence, integrity and ethical practice.

Chartered status is a recognised hallmark of trust. It represents, not only technical competence, but also professional accountability, and a commitment to positive societal impact. Chartered Week provides an opportunity to highlight these qualities, and the essential role Chartered professionals play in strengthening public confidence.

Founded by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, Chartered Week brings together the professional community (Chartered professionals, employers, awarding bodies and people aspiring to be professionally registered) to collaborate across sectors, share knowledge and best practices, and explore common challenges and goals.

The focus of Chartered Week is to:

  • recognise the role of Chartered professionals in fostering trust
  • highlight the value of Chartered status as a mark of excellence
  • inspire others to pursue professional registration

As part of the celebrations, we are showcasing a group of Chartered Engineers whose career journeys demonstrate how professional registration has shaped their development and contributed to the ongoing evolution of the profession.

Denson Mutarah CEng MCIBSE, Technical Compliance Manager at Alumet, developed an early interest in architecture, driven by curiosity about how structures influence everyday life. His career highlights include playing a key role in developing competency frameworks under the Building Safety Act, to strengthen industry compliance, as well as mentoring MSc Facade Engineering students. He believes achieving CEng status reflects a strong commitment to engineering quality, technical leadership, and ethical practice, enhancing the ability to drive innovation, improve safety, and influence industry standards.

Dr Evona Teh CEng FIET APMP, grew up around inventive, resilient women who taught her to solve problems by building things, rather than standing back. This mindset steered her toward engineering over medicine, a desire to design solutions and shape the future, transforming curiosity into lasting impact. As Strategic Foresight Innovation Lead (Corporate Strategy) at Jaguar Land Rover, she translates emerging technological and societal trends into strategic opportunities, advising leadership on next-generation initiatives in sustainability, intelligent systems, and future mobility. She champions Chartered Engineer status as a mark of expertise, ethical leadership, and inclusion for under-represented engineers.

Working in the defence sector, EUR ING Dr Ghazanfar Ali Khan CEng PE(US) IntPE(UK) MInstRE says professional registration became a defining marker of the quality and integrity he strived for. Inspired by one of his professors, he pursued CEng, EUR ING, and other globally recognised credentials, reflecting his commitment to engineering at the highest standards. Passionate about giving back to the engineering profession, he mentors aspiring CEng, IEng, and EngTech professionals to help them achieve their career goals and strengthen the engineering community.

As Royal Air Force Aerospace Systems Engineer Officer, Flt Lt Jess Mac Sweeney CEng MIMechE reviews documents for contract submissions, participates in working groups with commercial stakeholders and engineering colleagues, and provides specialist input on depot maintenance. This supports delivery teams and Air Force headquarters in their planning activity. She sees professional registration as both a guide and a roadmap for growth, noting that setting specific goals, such as achieving CEng, provides a clear way to track progress.

These inspiring stories highlight that Chartered status is more than a career milestone; it reflects a commitment to ethical standards, and a pursuit of excellence - principles that not only support individual career development but strengthen the profession as a whole.
