How the fees are used
Initially the fees are paid to the institution through which you are registered. The Licensed PEIs then passes them on to EngineeringUK who in turn make a grant to the Engineering Council. These fees allow the Engineering Council and EngineeringUK to ensure quality in the profession today and invest in shaping its future workforce for tomorrow.
EngineeringUK
The fee income funds EngineeringUK’s core activity, which is supplemented with corporate membership fees and fundraising.
EngineeringUK’s 2023-28 strategy works towards the vision that the UK has the diverse workforce needed for engineering and technology to thrive and to drive economic prosperity, improve sustainability and achieve net zero. All activities are underpinned by ongoing commitments to environmental sustainability and equity, diversity and inclusion.
EngineeringUK’s activities aim to drive change so more young people choose engineering and technology careers.
Engineering Council
Professional registration fees also fund the Engineering Council in its role as the profession’s regulatory body. This includes setting and maintaining internationally recognised professional standards as well as managing the national Register of 214,000 engineers and technicians who have been assessed against these standards and awarded one of its four professional titles.
In addition to its core regulatory work, the Engineering Council will continue to focus on delivering its 2025 Strategy - ‘Advancing Regulation’.
HMRC offers guidance on claiming tax relief on fees or subscriptions you pay to approved professional organisations.
