Neil Phelps IEng MIED

Nominated by Group B institutions

Neil is a Vice Chairman of Council and a trustee of the Institution of Engineering Designers, he is also a member of the membership committee, supports the accreditation of design-based degrees and is looking at opportunities for end point assessment of design apprenticeships.

He has recently retired after 35 years in the defence industry working in engineering design, standards development and resource management. During that time, he was also involved in governance of apprenticeships and professional development of engineering graduates.

Neil is a member of the BSi Technical Product Realization committee and the ISO Technical Committee responsible for Technical Product Documentation and has co-authored education publications in this field.

I believe there has never been more opportunity for new and existing engineers to become registered at all grades with the EC and using my experience in apprenticeships and developing young engineers I hope to work with the Board in promoting the importance of registration early in their career.
