As part of International Women in Engineering Day 2022, The Women’s Engineering Society (WES) has announced the winners of the Top 50 Women in Engineering awards. Now in its seventh year, the 2022 WE50 winners celebrate women who have created or improved a product or process that makes a difference. The Royal Academy of Engineering has announced 23 new ‘Ingenious’ awards for public engagement projects designed to inspire the next generation of engineers. Each project received grant funding to engage communities across the UK on a variety of issues including climate change, sport, cultural heritage, and increasing diversity and inclusion in engineering. Global engineering charity Foothold – the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) Benevolent Fund – offered more support to engineers in need 2020-21 than during any other period to date, marking the most successful year yet in the organisation’s 130-year history. New research from EngineeringUK has shown that 16.5% of those working in engineering are female, compared to 10.5% as reported in 2010. Analysis of trends in women in the engineering workforce between 2010 and 2021 shows this six percentage point increase in the proportion of women in the engineering workforce. The actual number of women working in engineering roles also increased from 562,000 in 2010 to 936,000 in 2021. …
