Delivery lead appointed to set up the new UK Cyber Security Council

Published: 19/08/2019

Recognising the importance of Cyber Security to the UK economy and national resilience, the Government undertook consultations about the formulation of a UK Cyber Security Council. This led to the establishment of the Cyber Security Alliance comprising 16 cyber security organisations, in which the Engineering Council is an active participant.

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) invited an open tender to develop and deliver the UK Cyber Security Council. That bid was taken forward through the Alliance, with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) as nominated lead.

The government has announced the appointment of IET as the lead organisation in charge of designing and delivering the new UK Cyber Security Council, alongside the Alliance which represents a substantial part of the cyber security community in the UK including the Engineering Council.

The full announcement can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-boost-to-increase-diversity-in-nations-cyber-security-industry.

The Engineering Council has been a member of the Cyber Security Alliance since its formation, working with Alliance members to put forward a credible plan for the development of a single body for the Cyber Security profession.
