Registrant appointed as Director of the Royal Institution

Dr Shaun FitzgeraldThe Engineering Council would like to congratulate Dr Shaun Fitzgerald CEng FCIBSE FEI FREng on his appointment as Director of the Royal Institution of Great Britain (Ri).

Dr Fitzgerald is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Energy Institute (EI) and a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE). Before founding technology company Breathing Buildings, which produces hybrid ventilation systems, he was a Research Associate at the University of Cambridge’s BP Institute

Dr Fitzgerald said:

“As an engineer, I have seen the ways in which scientific advances can dramatically transform people’s lives, and it has made me particularly passionate about public engagement with science.

Hence I am genuinely excited to be leading the Royal Institution in its important mission to create opportunities for everyone to discover, discuss and critically examine science and how it shapes the world around us.”.

By becoming professionally registered, all Chartered Engineers, Incorporated Engineers and Engineering Technicians have demonstrated their competence and commitment against an internationally recognised standard. This includes a personal commitment to professional standards, recognising obligations to society, the profession and the environment.
