Engineering activities to try at home

Published: 31/03/2020

The Great Exhibition at HomeWith many children now being home schooled for the next few months, some organisations are providing STEM activities to educate and entertain school age students.

Meanwhile, Big Ideas will be running seven weeks of virtual engagement and support for teachers and students during the summer term, including worksheets and educational videos. Their Great Exhibition at Home Challenge is inspired by the 1851 Great Exhibition, which celebrated the most advanced innovation from across the world. In the Great Exhibition at Home Challenge students aged 9-14 are asked to create displays answering the question ‘How can engineering help protect the planet?’. There are prizes to be won, including £500 of STEM equipment for their school.

The government’s Engineering: Take a Closer Look initiative has an online Activity Zone, with projects and challenges set by organisations including the RAF, the Science Museum and FIFA.
