A poll by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, found that 83% of adults have not received any support to improve their tech skills in the past six months. This is despite increased reliance on digital skills because of the pandemic, with people working from home and socialising remotely, using platforms such as Skype or Zoom. The annual Ipsos MORI Veracity Index has polled the UK general public’s trust in professions since 1983. The latest poll has once again shown engineers are among the UK’s most trusted professions, ranking behind only nurses and doctors. Research from the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng) shows that engineers who feel included at work show increased motivation, performance, and commitment to their organisation. RAEng has produced a series of workshop resources specifically for engineering companies to help create an inclusive culture where all members of the team feel valued.
