Over 80,000 people attended the 2017 Big Bang Fair over four days in March, which represents a 15% increase on the number of visitors the previous year. Visitor figures also show an equal number of 11 to 14 year-old girls and boys attended the event.

The annual event celebrates and brings to life science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) for young people in the UK to show them the exciting and rewarding opportunities that exist. Visitors were treated to hundreds of hands-on STEM activities, workshops, competitions and stage shows. They also had the chance to speak to professional engineers and scientists who had volunteered their time. The number of careers conversations ‎at the Careers Cabin and with Careers Captains reached almost 10,000, more than double the previous year’s number.

The event is supported by numerous engineering employers and attracted media interest including two BBC Breakfast sofa slots and live coverage with Steph McGovern throughout the Breakfast show.
