Nominations open for top 50 women in engineering

The Telegraph has opened for nominations to find the Top 50 Women in Engineering. The list, supported by the Women’s Engineering Society (WES), will be published to coincide with the annual celebration of women in the profession on 23 June, which this year has expanded to become the International Women in Engineering Day (INWED).

The Top 50 list was first published in 2016 and celebrated the work of 50 remarkable women engineers of all ages and levels. The 2017 list will feature women aged 35 and under who may be unrecognised, in order to put the spotlight on promising younger female engineers. The initiative is sponsored by a range of industry partners and aims to boost female uptake of engineering roles and careers by celebrating the notable achievements made by women in the sector. National Women in Engineering Day (NWED) was set up in 2014 to celebrate the 95th anniversary of the Women’s Engineering Society. From 2017 the awareness day will go international in order to highlight what opportunities there are for women in the sector and celebrate the achievements of outstanding female engineers.

Kirsten Bodley, Interim CEO of Women's Engineering Society says: "We're really pleased to have so much support for International Women in Engineering Day this year and aim to increase our reach to a wider audience with our theme of 'Men as Allies'; raising the profile of the opportunities available to women in engineering.”

On 23 June events will take place across the country to mark and celebrate the day. International sponsors will also be organising events at their offices outside of the UK. In 2016 over 550 events were held nationally, including by schools, companies and other organisations, and a social media campaign reached more than one million people.
