Conference to examine approaches to Engineering in Higher Education

Published: 30/01/2017

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Engineering Professors’ Council have combined forces to hold a one-day conference on the theme of New Approaches to Engineering in Higher Education. The event is taking place on 22 May 2017 at the IET’s London base at Savoy Place.

The international conference, which is free to attend, is aimed at academics, employers, engineers, professional bodies, researchers and policy-makers exploring innovations in engineering higher education, as well as current students. Chaired by Professor John Perkins, former BIS Chief Scientific Adviser, the event will feature presentations from educational pioneers about new degree programmes and innovative approaches in undergraduate engineering courses. Speakers include Professor Jeremy Watson, President of IET, Professor Rick Miller, President of Olin College, USA, and Professor Janusz Kozinski, Founding Dean of the Lassonde School of Engineering in Canada.

The conference has been called at a time when the IET’s most recent Skills and Demand in Industry survey found that, despite a demand for engineers, UK employers find many new engineering graduates have skills deficiencies.
