Glasgow Caledonian University’s BEng (Hons) Fire Risk Engineering course has been successfully accredited by the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) under its Engineering Council licence.

This means that graduates of this course will meet the education criteria to become professionally registered as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng), following the standard route, and partially meet the education criteria to become a Chartered Engineer (CEng). Accreditation applies to the part time BEng (Hons) Fire Risk Engineering course on the University’s London campus and the part time and full time course on the Glasgow campus. The accreditation period commenced from the October 2015 cohort.

The Engineering Council licenses 23 professional engineering institutions to accredit degree courses on behalf of the organisation. The Fire Risk Engineering degree programme at Glasgow Caledonian University was originally developed following widespread consultation with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Fire Engineering and Building Standards professionals. This led to the award of a BSc (Hons) degree. Following extensive discussions with interested professionals, including the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and London Fire Brigade, and recommendations from external examiners, it was developed into a BEng (Hons) programme for the award from 2016. The programme is now delivered full time and part time at the University’s city centre campus in Glasgow, and part time at its London campus in Spitalfields. More information is available here
