The UK Government has recently unveiled plans to fund building safety workforce shortages to support the building of around 1.5 million homes.
The Building Professional Workforce Programme is expected to train up to 700 additional Registered Building Inspectors, including those qualified to inspect higher-risk buildings. The funding will also support the upskilling of existing inspectors.
£55 million will be allocated to building control, and £15 million will support the fire engineering sector. This will include postgraduate bursaries, expanded provision of higher education (including masters level) and funding for research and development.
This programme is in response to the recommendations from the House of Lords Industry and Regulators Committee and input from the Fire Engineers Advisory Panel and sector advisory panels.
