This year, RAEng is launching the AI-Z of Engineering - a guide shaped by input from engineers that features over 100 current and emerging roles, showing what it means to be an engineer and highlighting the many ways engineering can make a real impact.
Engineering professionals play a critical role in solving complex global challenges. From tackling environmental issues and delivering clean water to advancing digital technologies, we rely on their expertise to improve lives, drive innovation, and help to build a more sustainable and inclusive future.
Through professional registration, the Engineering Council ensures engineers and technicians have the competence, professionalism, and commitment to ethical and sustainable practices needed to deliver trusted, inclusive solutions that serve society’s evolving needs.
This National Engineering Day, we honour the achievements of professionally registered engineers and technicians across disciplines, sectors, and career stages, who reflect the importance of making engineering more visible and accessible while improving everyday lives.
James KL Wong CEng MIMechE MIET was inspired by the engineering ethos of service. His academic and career journey helps him to tackle real-world challenges and drive meaningful change, such as account managing energy-saving solutions contributing to a 48GWh annual energy saving and supporting local decarbonisation. He pursued Chartered Engineer (CEng) status to recognise his growth, take on greater responsibility, and strengthen his reputation within the industry.
Mamta Singhal MBE CEng MIET FWES finds the technical aspects of packaging and materials fascinating. From how packaging is made to how it is recycled or disposed of, packaging is constantly evolving with every product requiring it, and she enjoys finding ways to improve it. Professional registration has helped her reflect on her journey and goals, as well as showing others that she has invested in herself. She wants to use engineering for good - supporting people, the planet, and progress, and says that becoming registered has given her a clear path forward and a network that’s truly invaluable.
Santina Bunting EngTech MICE believes that registration will support her journey toward becoming an Incorporated Engineer after university and align with her long-term career goals. As an apprentice ambassador, she has returned to her former all-girls school to promote apprenticeships and advocate for women in STEM. Passionate about representation and mentorship, she aims to inspire young women to pursue rewarding careers in engineering.
Paul Bailey, CEO of the Engineering Council said: “Engineering Day 2025 is about celebrating the engineering profession, challenging outdated perceptions and inspiring a true understanding of what it means to be an engineer today. Modern engineering is about creativity, innovation, and impact. Engineers are shaping the technologies, industries, and systems that will define our shared future. The AI–Z of Engineering celebrates this breadth and brilliance, showing how engineering touches every part of our lives and how it continues to evolve to meet global challenges.
“We are proud to uphold professional registration as a mark of competence and ethical commitment for engineers and technicians across all sectors.”
