Government publishes first Annual Report following the Grenfell Tower Inquiry

The Government has published its first annual update on delivering the Phase 2 recommendations, one year after its formal response to the Grenfell Tower Inquiry’s final report.

The report confirms the completion of 12 recommendations with 49 remaining in progress. Although some measures are scheduled through to 2028/29, the report highlights meaningful progress across several areas, including:

  • Developing a robust regulatory framework
  • Introducing clearer rules and system-wide reform
  • Enhancing competence and professional standards
  • Greater accountability and effective enforcement
  • Strengthening residents’ rights and protection
  • Speeding up remediation and resident support
  • Improving emergency preparedness

The Engineering Council is committed to strengthening professional standards and ethical leadership across the profession to support lasting building safety improvements and reinforce public confidence.
