What/who inspired you to become an engineer?
From the age of seven, I was captivated by how things worked. This early curiosity led me to teach maths and STEM to students at age 18, setting the stage for a career that blends technical insight with leadership.
Please describe your role within the workplace.
As CEO of a consulting firm, I lead strategic initiatives, manage complex engineering business management projects, and drive growth. My role requires balancing technical delivery with business strategy, fostering client relationships, and mentoring teams to achieve excellence.
What is the most challenging aspect of your role?
Balancing stakeholder expectations, managing diverse teams, and navigating tight deadlines require strategic thinking and adaptability. Leading while staying connected to the technical side of engineering is a dynamic challenge.
What is the most enjoyable aspect of your role?
Seeing ideas come to life and making a positive impact through engineering solutions is deeply rewarding. I also value guiding my team’s professional growth, fostering collaboration, and turning challenges into opportunities for innovation.
What is the biggest career highlight or achievement you’re most proud of?
Building my consulting firm into a trusted partner for clients across industries and leading high-profile projects has been a major achievement. My Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt (i.e. Expert leader in process improvement, strategy, coaching, and advanced analytics) experience has also been instrumental in driving operational excellence and continuous improvement across projects.
Why did you choose to become professionally registered?
Professional registration reflects my dedication to high standards, both technically and ethically. It also supports my goal to lead as a trusted and credible engineering professional in the global community.
I would recommend professional registration because…
It validates your expertise, strengthens your credibility, and opens doors to leadership opportunities within engineering and beyond.
What career advice would you give to your younger self?
Embrace leadership opportunities early, stay adaptable, and keep learning. Building strong relationships and leading with integrity are key to long-term success.
Do you participate in mentoring, volunteering, or membership of other engineering groups?
Yes, I actively mentor young engineers, participate in professional organisations, and volunteer as a Chartered Engineer (CEng) Professional Review Interviewer (PRI), CPD assessor and as a future trainer in the global training program for the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). I also teach STEM to primary, secondary, and tertiary students; conduct technical and management training for universities and industry; judge in global STEM competitions; and coach for international Olympiad math competitions. My Lean Six Sigma background has also enabled me to help organisations improve processes and drive sustainable growth.
