On 28 September 2018, the Engineering Council signed an agreement with Engineers Ireland, the registration body for engineers on the island of Ireland, to facilitate the mobility of engineering professionals between the UK and Ireland.
Recognising that the competency-based registration assessments for Engineering Council and Engineers Ireland are substantially equivalent, the Admissions Pathways Agreement (APA) aims to minimise duplicating assessment processes for all professional engineering titles.
The APA creates a streamlined process for recognising professionally registered Chartered Engineers (CEng), Incorporated Engineers (IEng) and Engineering Technicians (EngTech) and the corresponding membership grades of participating Licensed Professional Engineering Institutions (PEIs).
All Licensed PEIs licensed by the Engineering Council to register engineers and technicians may participate in the agreement.
UK engineering professionals seeking membership of Engineers Ireland should contact Engineers Ireland or their Licensed PEI for further details.
Irish engineering professionals should contact the relevant Licensed PEI.
