The International Register of Engineering Technicians (IntETn) was established in 2016 by the Agreement for International Engineering Technicians.

Each member of the AIET holds its own section of the IntETn register. This is denoted by the addition of a jurisdiction identifier to the IntETn designatory letters.

The Engineering Council is the UK member of the AIET.

The IntETn(UK) qualification is open to Engineering Technicians who are registered with the Engineering Council and who meet the following requirements:

  • An approved qualification or apprenticeship recognised under the Dublin Accord, or equivalent qualification
  • The competence for independent practise as an engineering technician as exemplified by the International Engineering Alliance competency profile
  • At least one year experience of engineering work after completing the educational base
  • Maintaining Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Registration is renewable every five years at a fee of £60 and requires demonstration of continued responsibility for significant engineering work and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for the period.

In addition to the benefits gained through Engineering Technician registration IntETn(UK) offers:

  • Letters after your name, eg J Smith CEng IntEtn(UK)
  • Easier admission to National Registers of AIET member jurisdictions

The Engineering Council and its fellow AIET members are pursuing the possibility of future mutual recognition of professional titles, which would further enhance the benefits of which would further enhance the benefits of IntETn(UK) qualification.

If you have gained your IntETn qualification from another AIET jurisdiction, you can apply for professional registration as an Engineering Technician.

To do this, the first step is to become a member of one of the UK’s Licensed Professional Engineering Institutions (PEIs).

As part of your application, you will be required to submit the following documents:

  • Detailed curriculum vitae of experience
  • Current record of continuing professional development
  • Evidence of IntETn registration (confirmation may be sought)
  • References from two persons who have a personal knowledge of your competence as an engineering technician

In recognition of the professional standing of IntETn, the Engineering Council allows a streamlined application process consisting of minimal scrutiny of qualifications and professional development.

Some Licensed PEIs may have additional membership requirements to this streamlining.
