Head of Professional Standards | IChemE

Position

The Head of Professional Standards, reporting to the Director Qualifications and working closely alongside the Head of Qualification Services, Volunteer Engagement Manager, key member committees, and regulators, will play a pivotal role in the delivery of the business plan pertaining to the success of IChemE’s membership and qualifications activities.

They will ensure adherence to both IChemE and regulatory requirements in order to maintain licences and the reputation of the institution, and provide subject matter expertise on qualifications related matters, spanning educational base, initial professional development and competence and commitment requirements, as well as accreditation and other key licensing/registration topics.

The Head of Professional Standards will also advise staff and members on membership and qualifications related to IChemE governance requirements and manage discussions and decisions on potential changes.

Requirements

  • Provide subject matter expertise related to licensing and regulatory requirements to staff (to Directors, COO and Chief Executive level) and members (including Trustees), ensuring compliance on existing activities and assessing any proposed changes against compliance requirements
  • Assess, plan and deliver changes driven by governance or regulator; work closely with Head of Qualification Services to assess and deliver new operational new requirements
  • Horizon scanning of upcoming changes that may impact IChemE; carry out analysis and communication/consultation as required
  • Provide subject matter expertise related to IChemE membership and qualifications governance, ensuring compliance on existing activities and assessing any proposed changes against requirements
  • Propose updates to regulations as required and track them to approval/completion
  • Ensure processes, guidance and forms align with published regulations etc.
  • Advise on matters relating to international/ mutual recognition agreements on qualifications, and represent IChemE at EngC IAP meetings
  • Join other working groups as required, to provide or gain subject expertise and represent IChemE’s interests
  • Ensure optimisation of peer review committee structure and operation according to regulator and IChemE governance requirements
  • Ensure optimisation of processes according to regulator and IChemE governance requirements, ensuring that where process/practice exceed requirements, these are justifiable and clearly documented
  • Quality Assurance
  • Complete annual regulator reports
  • Develop, deliver and keep current subject matter training for staff
  • Work with Volunteer Engagement to input to subject matter of initial and ongoing training of the international network of volunteers
  • Deliver periodic assessor newsletters etc. and assure assessor feedback loop (in cooperation with Volunteer Engagement) and arrange assessor and ACTS manager conferences
  • Develop policy as required
  • Support learned society activities as required
  • Support the Membership and Qualifications Committee and its sub-committees in relation to matters of good practice and to ensure strategic/business plan activities are delivered and are aligned to regulator and governance requirements
  • Provide subject matter ‘discussion content/papers’ to committees and lead discussions to resolution; provide overall secretariat support for the subcommittees
  • Share good practice with peers within IChemE and share/gain good practice from peers at other institutions (especially via EngC HoM meeting)
  • Co-own, with Director Qualifications, the relationship with regulators, and manage interactions with them, ensuring responses are timely and proportionate
  • Monitor and share regulator developments and provide comment as required; lead response on formal consultations
  • Working with marketing, assure optimal promotion of the registers
  • Produce, update and publish applicant and assessor guidance documentation, ensuring a consistent and accessible approach
  • Monitor and report on standards-related data and trends

In addition to duties and responsibilities listed above, the employee may be required to perform other duties assigned by their line manager from time to time.

Due to IChemE’s international nature, this position requires a willingness to work flexibly and to engage in business discussions outside of normal working hours.

The position is based in the Rugby UK office (CV21 3HQ).

This is a permanent full-time role based on 37.5 hours per week working Monday through to Friday (core hours from 10:00 – 12:00 and 14:30 – 16:00). Flexibility will be required to meet business needs.

Salary £55,000 per annum (depending on experience) plus benefits which includes an excellent pension scheme.

Head of Qualification Services | IChemE

Position
The Head of Qualification Services, reporting to the Director Qualifications and working closely alongside the Head of Professional Standards, Volunteer Engagement Manager, and other colleagues in the Member Experience team will play a pivotal role in the delivery of the business plan pertaining to the success of IChemE’s membership and qualifications activities and sustainable growth in membership.

They will lead a team of membership staff and will develop and maintain the required framework and processes to assure optimal experience for individuals wishing to join IChemE as a member/registrant, transfer their grade of membership/registration, and for organisations seeking (re-)accreditation. Member/registrant CPD sampling activity also sits within the remit of this role. They will also ensure that we engage with our member volunteers and committees in the most effective way possible.

  • Requirements
    Define service-related strategy to drive culture of proactivity
  • Optimises team profile/ structure and ways of working to deliver optimal service
  • Drive Lean mindset and IChemE values within the team and lead ISO / risk management activities

  • Inform / consult committees as required where process improvements impact volunteer activity
  • Understand the apprenticeship requirements and successfully mentor apprentice advisors through their college work
  • Provide training for staff and volunteers on use of systems/tools
  • Organise member certificate presentation events
  • Optimise and manage the annual member/registrant CPD sampling activity, ensuring volume targets are met and policy is adhered

Regional Engagement Managers x 3 | IChemE

Position
We are looking to recruit three Regional Engagement Managers who are the key drivers of IChemE activity across all UK regions, helping the organisation to achieve its strategic goal of supporting a vibrant and thriving profession.

Working as a dynamic UK field force with regional HEIs, employers, and other priority partners to identify, nurture and grow sustainable relationships and engagement opportunities that positively impact IChemE’s member recruitment, engagement, and retention.

As an integral part of IChemE’s global team, these role holders will be the organisation’s key representatives across geographic regions, supporting and driving operations through frequent liaison with other IChemE management, functional teams, member groups and committees.

Requirements
Employer engagement (25%)

Identify, initiate and develop links with a growing number of employers to broaden our member base and deepen engagement with members through world class customer service
Support members and employers to host regional celebration events
Support members and employers with professional qualifications, directing to specialist in-house teams where appropriate
Grow the number of Accredited Company Training Schemes and/or Approved Apprenticeship schemes within the allocated region
Work with Accredited Company Training Scheme (ACTS) Providers and Corporate Partners to maintain effective working relationships and explore opportunities for sustainable development
Provide market intelligence to the Senior Management Team within a key account management framework.

Regional member development (25%)

Key accountability for member engagement and recruitment in the region
Support delivery of high quality member engagement through formal groups and committees whilst maintaining a keen eye on efficiencies
Support the recruitment and induction of member volunteers

University and ‘On Campus’ (25%)

Develop and grow partnerships with HEI-based chemical engineering departments, ensuring that you are a trusted partner for staff and students (undergraduate and postgraduate)
Collaborate with with Chemical Engineering Societies to raise the profile of IChemE and the profession

General (25%)

Act as a Champion for all IChemE activities regionally, nationally, and internationally
Play an active role in company / departmental development projects and continued improvement initiatives
Participate in industry body and public sector meetings to share best practise and increase market knowledge
Provide the highest level of reporting against KPIs to peers, senior management and governance groups.
Other information
These positions are based either at our Rugby (CV21 3HQ) or London Office (SW1P 1PR) however as these roles are UK field based roles, extensive business travel will be involved, including a requirement to frequently attend the IChemE offices in Rugby.
