I first became Chartered in 2016. Pursuing Chartered Engineer (HRB) was different - it felt necessary given the changes in regulation and the increased focus on higher-risk buildings. I see Chartered Engineer status as having a travel passport in place of other forms of IDs, because it has been standardised via UK-SPEC to match up with global engineering work ethics and maintains continued professional development.
Building Safety – looking ahead to future priorities at the Building Safety Conference
The Building Safety Conference 2026 will be taking place on 17 March 2026, hosted by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) in London. It will provide a forum to support and inform the construction engineering industry, bringing together leading voices from building construction and industry regulation.
