Professional Engineering Institutions

To become professionally qualified with the Engineering Council as CEng, IEng, EngTech or ICTTech  you must be a member of a licensed professional engineering institution, who will act as the awarding body for your registration.

Licences are granted by the Engineering Council to professional engineering institutions, allowing them to assess candidates for inclusion on its Register of professional engineers and technicians, and to accredit academic programmes and professional development schemes.

Licensed institutions are deemed to have sufficient experience, procedures and resources to undertake the following tasks:

• assess the competence and commitment of candidates for registration
• monitor the continuing professional development of registrants
• monitor the conduct of registrants

There are currently 35 licensed institutions whose details can be found below. When choosing which institution to contact it is best to join one closest to the discipline of engineering you work in.  For some engineers there could be two or three suitable institutions, in which case you could choose to join more than one, or contact all those suitable to choose which you would prefer to join.
