BSI, the British Standards Institution, will run a free online webinar on Thursday 24 September for people working in every aspect of the design, build and management of residential buildings including higher risk residential buildings (HRRBs).
Following on from the work of Dame Judith Hackitt’s Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety, the Competence Steering Group (CSG) was formed to take forward the recommendations for improving safety. In August 2019 the CSG published its interim report: Raising the Bar. Over 150 institutions and 300 professionals contributed to the 600 page report, which included 67 recommendations to increase public safety and industry competence in the built environment. One recommendation was the creation of a national standard suite of standards and supporting documents.
BSI is leading the development of that suite of standards and the webinar will launch the first consultation on the new standard, Built Environment – Overarching Competence Framework - Specification.
The framework will set out core principles of competence, covering risk management, delivering safety, communicating safety, leading and managing safety, fire safety, ethics, and building systems. Stakeholders can learn about the new standard, its development process, and how they can get involved.
The webinar will run from 3.30pm-5pm and will include presentations, followed by a Q&A. Find out more and register via the BSI website.
