The Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng) recently announced 19 winners of its President's Special Awards for Pandemic Service for transformative work during the COVID-19 pandemic.
These awards recognise exceptional examples of engineering in the service of society in the context of pandemic challenges. Many of the winners have featured in previous Innovation in a crisis panels, and as RAEng draws this phase of the series to a close, a public webinar on 27 August will bring together Academy Fellows and winners to celebrate and reflect on the awards.
This event will be chaired by Professor Karen Holford CBE FREng FLSW, and will feature a special address from HRH The Princess Royal, Royal Fellow of the Academy.
It will open with an overview and discussion of the awards, where Professor Holford will be joined by:
- Professor Sir Jim McDonald FREng FRSE, Academy President
- Professor Raffaella Ocone OBE FREng FRSE, Chair of the Academy Awards Committee.
This will then be followed by a panel discussion with three of the award winners, representing Open Ventilator System Initiative, the Oxford Rapid Test for COVID-19 and the Sewer Epidemiology for Early Warning and Management, showcasing the breadth of the engineering contributions made.
