Engineering Council joins landmark Lisbon Summit to shape the future of European Engineering Accreditation

Published: 11/10/2024

The inaugural European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education (ENAEE) – European Accreditation Agencies’ Summit took place at the headquarters of Ordem dos Engenheiros (Order of Engineers) in Lisbon in June. This groundbreaking event was organised by ENAEE in collaboration with the Ordem, the regulatory and licensing body for the engineering profession in Portugal, which has a mutual recognition agreement with the Engineering Council.

This summit marked a significant milestone in the promotion of quality in engineering education across Europe and beyond. It brought together leaders from ENAEE member agencies for meaningful discussions on improving engineering education, training and professional accreditation.

The opening session featured presentations by Fernando de Almeida Santos, President of the Order of Engineers, Lídia Santiago, Vice-President of the Order of Engineers, and José Carlos Quadrado, President of ENAEE. Their speeches highlighted the crucial role of collaboration and innovation in upholding high standards in engineering education.

Representing the Engineering Council at this landmark event was Katy Turff, Deputy CEO and Head of Policy and Standards, who said “The ENAEE Summit was a welcome opportunity to collaborate and learn with colleagues from Europe and beyond who share our commitment to developing globally responsible engineers".

The summit offered a unique platform for Europe's engineering accreditation agencies to share knowledge, ideas, and best practices, paving the way for future initiatives aimed at improving engineering education in the interests of people, planet and prosperity.
