How to apply for EngTech
- You need to become a member of one of the Institutions which
register Engineering Technicians - for list click here
.
- The Institution will help you to show that you meet the
requirements of ECUK's United Kingdom Standard for Professional
Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC) - available for download on the
right. This means demonstrating that you have the necessary
technical and personal competence, and are committed to keeping
these up to date and acting in a professional and socially
responsible manner. Examples are given in UK-SPEC pages 6 and 7.
- Practising engineering professionals will make an assessment.
If you need to do more to show how you have met a standard, the
Institution will advise on what you need to do.
Getting registered may be more straightforward if you have
certain qualifications, or have completed an
advanced apprenticeship. But it's recognised that you can develop
knowledge and skills in other ways, through your working experience,
and the Institution you join will have ways of assessing this.
Examples of qualifications which will help include:
- a National Certificate or Diploma in Engineering or
Construction
- a technical certificate as part of an Advanced Modern
Apprenticeship
- an approved level 3 NVQ or SVQ
- a work based learning route approved by a licensed
professional engineering institution
