Benefits of EUR ING professional qualification
Awarded by FEANI (the European Federation of National
Engineering Associations), the EUR ING title provides a guarantee
of competence for professional engineers, in order to:
- allow practicing engineers to move within and outside the
geographical area represented by FEANI's member countries
- ensure mutual recognition of qualifications, should engineers
wish to practice outside their own country
- encourage the continuous improvement in the quality of
engineers by setting, monitoring and reviewing standards
The UK Privy Council has approved the use of the title EUR ING
as a pre-nominal, in front of the name and before all other ranks
and titles, eg EUR ING J. Smith CEng.
The EUR ING title is recognised by the European Commission, in a
statement to the European Parliament, as a valuable tool for the
recognition of national qualifications among member states.
The Engineering Council and FEANI
FEANI is a federation of professional engineers that unites
national engineering associations from 29 European countries,
including all EU member states. It represents the interests of over
3.5 million professional engineers in Europe.
As the British national member, the Engineering Council provides
input into FEANI through the expertise of its International
Advisory Panel.
Eligibility
Chartered Engineers are generally eligible for the EUR ING
title, and over 14,000 UK CEngs have already achieved the
qualification.
FEANI's specific requirements are:
- Applicants should have a minimum of an approved three-year
degree and a further period of professional experience, making a
total of seven years. Around 14,000 university
courses approved by FEANI as qualifying for EUR ING
registration are listed in the FEANI Index.
- Applicants who do not have an approved degree can be registered
through an experience-based route, which has strict criteria, and
includes a longer period of professional experience.
Full details about eligibility for EUR ING registration are
provided in the "Guide to the FEANI Register", which can be viewed
on the FEANI website.
