Institutions to join forces in UK and Asia

Published: 17/06/2016

The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) have announced plans for closer collaboration, with shared office facilities in London and South East Asia. The announcement was made by IChemE’s CEO David Brown, at its Annual General Meeting in Edinburgh, on 24 May.

IChemE will relocate its London office to One Birdcage Walk in Westminster, currently home to IMechE and IMarEST, in August 2016. IMarEST moved from Aldgate to One Birdcage Walk, joining IMechE, in January 2016.

Also announced at the AGM were plans for closer cooperation in South East Asia. The new development will see IMarEST share IChemE’s offices in Malaysia, while IChemE will share the IMarEST facility in Singapore. In addition to providing improved support for local members, the partnership will also open up new opportunities for further promotion of education, training and professional registration within both chemical and marine engineering. Both organisations will also work with local industry, universities and other partners to grow their respective member communities.

David Brown said: “I am delighted to announce that our Institution will be working more closely with our colleagues at IMechE and IMarEST. An efficient London base is very important for IChemE's work in the UK and as a location for member meetings. One Birdcage Walk is a great central location, and means we will be able to align our initiatives with two other leading membership bodies for engineers.”
