The National Engineering & Construction Recruitment Exhibition (NECR)
Hall 8, NEC, Birmingham, 6 & 7 May 2011
Friday 11am - 5pm, Saturday 11am - 4pm
FREE ENTRY

Following the success of its launch last year, the Engineering Council and Professional Engineering Institutions (PEIs) will once again be exhibiting together on the Professional Development Hub at The National Engineering & Construction Recruitment Exhibition (NECR) at the NEC, Birmingham on 6 & 7 May 2011.

The Professional Development Hub will cover more engineering disciplines for the May exhibition, with a greater number of PEIs taking part.  This means that there will be an increased number of representatives on hand to advise visitors about their professional development options, including information about institution membership and professional registration.

Jon Prichard, Chief Executive Officer of the Engineering Council says, "We are pleased that so many of the institutions will be participating with us at this leading career opportunity forum in May.  By working together on the Professional Development Hub we can help engineers to develop an understanding of the importance of professional registration, both for their own career development and for the profession as a whole.  Engineering employers and their clients are increasingly asking for evidence of employee's competence, and professional membership and registration is one of the simplest ways to do this."

Those on the Professional Development Hub will be joining an impressive range of leading engineering and construction companies recruiting at the exhibition, including GE Aircraft Engine Services, Jaguar Land Rover, JCB, Network Rail and RSA. Employers will be offering exciting career opportunities across all disciplines for the thousands of experienced and skilled professionals as well as graduates seeking new careers or their next step at the UK's largest industry-dedicated recruitment event.

Scott Bannerman, Director of Venture Marketing Group, which organises the NECR, commented: "Speaking daily about job prospects with major engineering and construction companies across the UK and around the world, I detect increasing confidence in growth prospects in the industry. The range of organisations recruiting at the event shows that major sectors of the engineering industry, including aerospace and transport, have a positive view of expansion."

In addition to the Professional Development Hub, the exhibition offers many free advisory services to help visitors develop their careers and gain advice on their job search. Within the Careers Advice Lounge experts will offer personalised guidance on how to find the perfect job, while one-to-one consultations at the CV Clinic will give vital hints on how to produce the perfect CV. In addition, free half-hour group workshops at the Interview Clinic will give visitors individual and practical advice on how to approach an interview, and invaluable tips on how to demonstrate the qualities recruiters are looking for.

There are also a wide variety of free presentations throughout both days of the exhibition, offering invaluable careers advice and information on opportunities at the UK's leading engineering and construction companies. They provide advice on how to approach an interview, how the application process works, what recruiters are looking for and how to demonstrate these qualities.

The Women in Engineering Forum will be taking place at the NECR on 6 May 2011. Offering women at all stages of their career the chance to share experiences, make new contacts and hear about exciting new vacancies, the forum provides an invaluable networking opportunity.

For final-year university students, University Challenge gives teams across the country the chance to compete against each other to design, build and test their inventions in a challenging task to win a prize of £750†. Watching the teams in action is both educational and entertaining! To enter a team please email necr@vmgl.com or call 020 8394 5206.

Scott Bannerman concludes: "Alongside the range of leading recruiters, the continued support of the Engineering Council and the Professional Engineering Institutions confirms the NECR as the industry's most respected recruitment event.

"Engineers and construction professionals at all levels looking for opportunities and advice will discover that, by visiting this comprehensive exhibition, they can find all they need to develop their career in one place."

About the Engineering Council

The Engineering Council holds the national registers of Engineering Technicians (EngTech), Incorporated Engineers (IEng), Chartered Engineers (CEng) and Information and Communication Technology Technicians (ICTTech).  It also sets and maintains the internationally recognised standards of competence and ethics that govern the award and retention of these titles. By this means it is able to ensure that employers, government and wider society – both at home and overseas – can have confidence in the skills and commitment of registrants.

To apply for the EngTech, IEng, CEng or ICTTech titles an individual must be a member of one of the 36 engineering institutions and societies currently licensed by the Engineering Council to assess candidates. Applicants must demonstrate that they possess a range of technical and personal competences and are also committed to keeping these up-to-date, and to behaving in a professionally and socially responsible manner.
