Guide to going global
Worldwide, there are now several thousand men and women who are
listed on the International Register of Professional Engineers and
who thus have the right to the title IntPE. A new leaflet from ECUK
- which maintains the Register's UK section - explains how the
title came about, who is eligible to acquire it and why they would
want to. In the UK, applicants must already be registered as
Chartered Engineers (CEng).
The International Register was created in 2001 by the Engineers'
Mobility Forum (EMF). This comprises ECUK and the national
engineering organisations of Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Ireland,
Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Africa and the USA.
The IntPE title has particular appeal for those engineers who
are looking to ply their trade overseas. The benefits it brings
range from recognition of academic qualifications to immediate
membership of a country's national engineering organisation, which
may be a pre-requisite for gaining employment.
