About Recognition Accords

The ECUK has entered into three agreements with overseas engineering organisations which provide for mutual recognition of accredited academic programmes. This recognition can facilitate both immigration and host nation registration for holders of UK qualifications and similarly makes registration with ECUK easier for applicants whose qualifications are accredited by the partner organisations. The three agreements operate at the globally recognised three levels of registration: Washington Accord (Chartered /Professional Engineer), Sydney Accord (Incorporated Engineer/Engineering Technologist) and Dublin Accord (Engineering Technician). Currently there is no agreement directly giving mutual recognition of professional titles but the International Registers provides some benefits and there are some discipline specific exemption agreements. The Accords and the Registers are coordinated by the International Engineering Alliance of which ECUK is a leading member.
