A key benefit for registrants and
holders of Engineering Council accredited academic qualifications
is that the quality of UK qualifications is widely recognised by
the rest of the world. There are also a number of specific
mutual recognition agreements and European laws which guarantee
acceptance of these qualifications overseas.
Recognition of professional qualifications
Under the provisions of the Recognition of Professional
Qualifications Directive, registrants have rights of recognition
and license to practice in other European countries.
Through the Engineers Mobility Forum and the Engineering
Technologists Mobility Forum, the Engineering Council participates
in the International Register of Professional Engineers (IntPE) and
the International Register of Engineering Technologists (IntET).
Membership of these registers facilitates professional recognition
in a number of countries.
Recognition of academic qualifications
Within Europe, the listing of UK degrees on the FEANI Index and
their EUR-ACE badging promote their acceptance by regulators and
employers. They also underpin the award of the FEANI EUR ING
title.
An increasing number of countries outside Europe are signatories
to the Washington, Sydney and Dublin Accords. These agreements mean
that academic qualifications accredited by the Engineering Council
at Chartered, Incorporated and Engineering Technician grade will be
accepted as meeting those countries' academic requirements for
national registration.
