Titles awarded by the Engineering Council -
CEng, IEng, EngTech and ICTTech - are globally recognised
qualifications. With 25% of registered engineers working
outside the UK and 10-15% of registrants being non-UK citizens,
international issues are of major importance to the Engineering
Council.
International strategy
The Engineering Council works to extend the recognition of UK
engineers overseas by:
- reaching mutual recognition agreements with international
professional bodies
- encouraging international companies to recognise the value of
UK qualifications
- encouraging governmental organisations to move towards the
international alignment of professional recognition and provision
of engineering services.
Implementation of this strategy covers three main areas:
- recognition of UK engineering education by overseas
registration/licensing authorities and by company HR departments,
particularly the qualifications accredited by the Engineering
Council
- recognition of the Engineering Council's professional
qualifications (CEng, IEng, EngTech, ICTTech)
- the acceptance of UK qualified engineers under migration and
mobility regulations.
International partners
In order to achieve its aims the Engineering Council is a
leading member of a number of supra-national organisations.
Within Europe: the European Federation of
National Engineering Associations (FEANI) and the European Network
for Accreditation of Engineering Education (ENAEE).
Outside Europe: the International Engineering
Alliance (IEA) (which comprises the Washington Accord, Sydney
Accord, Dublin Accord, International Register of Professional
Engineers, APEC Engineer Register and International Register of
Engineering Technologists).
The Council also interacts with appropriate UK government
departments and EU Commission directorates.
