Students who are completing their course of study and intend in
due course to become registered as a professionally qualified
engineer can find general information about becoming registered by
clicking here. You are encouraged to contact
your professional engineering institution for details of their
particular requirements.
If you need to complete some 'further learning' and prefer to do
this in the workplace, then the flexible work-based route developed
by Engineering Council may be for you.
This route enables you to gain the necessary academic
qualifications and develop the required competence for professional
qualification whilst working. As well as undertaking learning
to meet UK-SPEC requirements for either bachelor's or master's
level, you will develop the required competences for professional
registration.
Successful completion of the learning programme results in an
academic award. Participants who demonstrate the required
competences are also eligible to apply for professional
review. Your learning and development of competences are
based around your work activity and also tailored to your
employer's needs.
Benefits to you in work include:
- A workplace route to achieving the required academic
qualifications for professional qualification - IEng or CEng
status
- Your learning and professional development are linked to your
workplace activities
- No loss of earnings as you will 'learn whilst earning'
- Support and mentoring to guide you through the process.
Who is it for?
It is for you if you don't have the full exemplifying academic
qualification, are in work, and are unable to commit to full-time
study. For example, you may hold an accredited BEng degree
and aspire to becoming a Chartered Engineer but prefer not to
engage in studying full-time for a Masters degree.
If you hold a non-accredited degree or other academic
qualifications, you are strongly recommended to contact directly
the university or college where you would like to enrol as they
will consider individual experience and academic
qualifications.
Access for those based outside the UK click here.
Programmes lead to either an MSc Professional Engineering
for those aiming for CEng or a Bachelor level award for those
aiming for IEng.

qualification. If you are interested in a professional body
or university that is not listed contact the Project Manager
