Since 2006, university engineering
departments across Europe have been able to demonstrate their
international standing through the award of the EUR-ACE
Label.
About the EUR-ACE Label
The EUR-ACE Label is a decentralised European accreditation
system of engineering study programmes. It is the product of a
European Commission backed initiative to create a degree
accreditation framework with internationally acknowledged
standards. A progressive, outcomes based framework, compatible with
the UK-SPEC and QAA benchmarks, the EUR-ACE Label is administered
by the European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education
(ENAEE).
As well as facilitating the mobility of students and graduates,
the EUR-ACE Label boosts the value and marketability of a degree
programme. It is recognised and accepted throughout the European
Higher Education Area.
Eligibility
In the UK the Engineering Council is able to award the EUR-ACE
Label to first and second cycle engineering degrees that meet the
required standard. Degree courses accredited by a licensed
professional engineering institution since 2006 automatically meet
the EUR-ACE standard and are eligible to be considered.
Owing to the costs associated with the EUR-ACE scheme, the
Engineering Council has to charge €170 for each course that is
awarded the label.
