Professional affiliates are engineering institutions closely associated with, but not licensed by, the Engineering Council. They are an influential group, each of which has furthered the knowledge and understanding of a particular area or aspect of engineering and technology.
Affiliation is recognition of the contribution these organisations have made in their different fields of expertise. It also affords the opportunity to test their procedures and standards for membership against the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC). This might lead to becoming one of the Engineering Council's licensed engineering institutions. Several professional affiliates have progressed to licensed status in this way.
Prior to obtaining licensed status, professional affiliates can enter into an agreement with an existing licensed institution to process their members for registration. More details of this option are available on request, please use the contact us link at the bottom of the page.
