About the Board

The Engineering Council is governed by a 22 member Board of Trustees, who are appointed in accordance with our Bye-Laws. 15 are appointed to represent the professional engineering institutions, and 7 are appointed by the ETB to represent industry.

About the Chairman

Professor Kel Fidler

Professor Fidler was elected Chairman in 2005, and re-elected in 2008. He is a Director of NEXUS (the Passenger Transport Executive for Tyne and Wear) and Chair of the Associates of the Discovery Museum.  Until recently he was Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Northumbria University at Newcastle and Chair of the Independent Commission on Northumberland.  He has been a Board member of EngineeringUK (formerly the Engineering and Technology Board) since 2005.

A world-acknowledged expert in electronic circuit design and active filter design and previously Deputy Vice-Chancellor York University, Professor Fidler chaired the group that developed the UK-SPEC registration standard, the Engineering Council Output Standards Working Party, and the Engineering Council Registration Standards Committee.

Professor Fidler has been IET representative on the Engineering Council Board since 2002.
