1995; a BEng (Hons) (University of Sunderland, UK (Electrical and Electronic
Engineering) in 1997; and I became a Certified Energy Manager, Energy

Lim Wah
I became a Graduate Member of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia in 1999 and
in 2003 undertook the Professional Interview with the Institution of Engineers,
Malaysia (pending result of transfer), became a Member of the Institution of
Incorporated Engineers (UK) and am now Registered as an Incorporated Engineer
with the IIE and the Engineering Council (UK).
From 1997 I was employed by an electrical contracting firm as an Electrical
Engineer and from 2000 to 2003 as a project management consultant (ISO
certified) as a project engineer.
Reasons why I wanted to be a registered engineer
It is universally understood that a mere “engineer †status given by an employer
is not recognized internationally as a person having gone through a proper
qualifying process involving the screening of the educational background and
the type of training one has undergone.
It is in this regard that I wish to be recognized as a professional in
electrical engineering practice through 3rd party certification. ECUK was known
by me as a well-recognized engineering registration body as well as a
qualifying establishment for qualified engineers. Therefore, I believe that I
have chosen the correct path of getting registered and recognized, especially
through a well–established registration body like ECUK.
