Allow me to introduce myself, my name is B J Brooks, I'm 31 and a
class 1 Vehicle Mechanic (VM) in the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers
(REME) and have been for a little over 14 years now. I'm currently posted here
in Canada where my job is NCO I/C Warrior repair line, in essence you could say
I'm a line manager having 19 people working for me. I've also served in places
such as recently Kuwait/Iraq and have had postings to Germany, Belize, Northern
Ireland and UK.

I've worked on a varied range of Military Equipments from trailers through to
the Challenger 2 Tank. Upon gaining the relevant qualifications after
completing the VM's class 1 course I compared them with our civilian
counterparts and although it appeared we held the same I decided to get myself
an edge. Since I wasn't going to be in the Army all my life I chose to join the
SOE and although it has little impact on my life whilst I'm still serving it
keeps me up to date with our civilian counterparts and will no doubt be of
great help when I decide to leave the Army.
So why did I decide to get registered? Well it could mean the difference in
getting an interview or not and keeps you appraised of changes within the
Transport Industry.
So to end, join an institute and get registered it could make all the difference
in getting the job you want.
