Lesley Desport, CEng MICE
My name is Lesley Desport, I am aged 37 and am delighted to have recently
achieved Chartered Engineer status by becoming a Member of the Institution of
Civil Engineers.
Lesley Desport
I am presently residing and working in the Kingdom of Bahrain as a Senior Design
Engineer (specialising in Wastewater Networks) with MWH's joint venture group,
Watson Khonji Consulting Engineers
After graduating from Strathclyde University with a BEng Hons in
Civil Engineering in 1988, I spent approximately 18 months working in Glasgow
as a Graduate Engineer. When an opportunity to work abroad arose, I didn't
hesitate and moved with the intention of returning to UK after one year.
However, at the end of this period, I chose to remain abroad – and find it hard
to believe that fourteen years have now passed since I emigrated from UK.
During this period I have also worked in UAE and Qatar in both the water and
wastewater fields before moving on to Bahrain in 2000.
I manage a small team of engineers and technical staff who are
engaged in the design of wastewater networks for residential areas of Bahrain
which are currently served by septic tanks.
Applying for my Chartered Professional Review has been a goal since graduation.
I view becoming a Registered Engineer as an opportunity to further develop my
career and broaden my horizons. The present political climate in the Middle
East gives cause for concern and I consider my newly acquired and
internationally recognised CEng MICE status as a ‘booster passport' for travel
should the need arise!
